As of a few weeks ago, many of you would have said the exact same thing. But Rivian have smashed onto our screens and they’re looking incredible!
Being one of the first EV’s in its class has given them a head start in the market and I really believe that they’ll steal a share of the market in 2020 when they’re due to start delivery. Being an American start up that’s selling pickups, they’ll be going up against some real competition - like the Ford F150. This is the bestselling combustible engine pickup in the USA, selling over 900,000. Compare that to the UK market of 16,440 sales of the Ford Ranger.
The headline facts that really make Rivian stand out from the crowd:
Comparing these figures to the Ford Ranger which can do 765.6 miles combined driving range, however this model gives off a HUGE amount of CO2 and with only 1307L load space, it just doesn’t quite cut the mustard compared to the Rivian.
Given that the EV market is still young, start-ups are really pushing boundaries and technologies to make these new vehicles real players in the future and not just gimmicks.
Roll on 2020.
With the Rivian R1T pickup revealed this morning, just ahead of the Los Angeles auto show, and the R1S SUV expected to be shown here this week, a Michigan-based electric-vehicle startup called Rivian might have something that’s been a long time coming: the first widely available fully electric light-duty pickup.
